Son of John Jellison born South Berwick, York County, Province of Massachusetts 2 November 1721. It is believed that Robert's mother was Lydia Hutchins

His son John was born around 1771 in New Jersey. Robert Jellison "was a pew-holder at Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church in Basking Ridge, Morris County, New Jersey between 1769 and 1776 and between 1783 and 1786." Robert "Gelleson" appears in a militia list in Morris County, New Jersey in May 1778. He appears as Robert Gellison in the 1778 Ratable (tax) list for Morris Township, Morris County, New Jersey and as Robert Jealison in the 1780 list for the same place.

The 1790 Census shows Robert "Gillison" in Derry Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He appears as Robert Jellison in the 1800 census.

On 23 June 1806 Robert Jellison, Senr. bought 117 acres of land in Derry from Jonathan Doty for $100. On 13 July 1807 Robert Jellison bought an adjoining tract of 134 acres. On 8 Sept. 1809 Robert Jellison (he signed his name Gelleson) mortgaged these two tracts of land to his son Ephraim for $800, with the provision that the money be repaid by December 20. (On 19 Apr. 1826, the day that Robert Jellison's will was proved, Ephraim acknowledged "full satisfaction" for the above loan.)

The 1810 Census shows Robert Jellison, Sr. in Derry Township, together with sons John, Ephraim and Robert, all on the same page, each as head of his own household. Robert, Sr.'s household consisted only of 1 male over 45 (himself) and one female over 45 (wife Margaret). His household was listed in exactly the same way in the 1820 census.

Robert Jellison died 16 Apr. 1826.11 He was buried at the Old Salem Cemetery in Derry.12. His will was signed on 2 Feb. 1826 and proved on 19 Apr. 1826, three days after his death.13 In this will Robert Jelison, "being in a declining state of health," left one third of his personal property to his wife Margaret "and any other thing that the Law may allow her"; he left to his son John "that piece of Land that he once lived upon, supposed to be forty-five acres, lying upon the Northwest end of the place"; he left "the remainder of my land where I now live and the place where Robert Jellison my son lives" to his sons Ephraim and Robert "each of them to have equal shares"; he mentions his daughter Polly Voris, and granddaughters Hannah (daughter of Ephraim), Hannah (daughter of Robert) and Hannah Vores. He appointed as executors James Long and his sons Ephraim and Robert. (His son John had already moved to Ohio.) The will was witnessed by Zebulon Doty (father-in-law of son Robert) and John Robison.
