Miss Elizabeth Brownell Combs was the daughter of Gen Leslie Combs (1793–1881) & Mary Elizabeth Brownell (1823–1857). She had several siblings: one full brother Leslie Jr (, and half sister from her mother's 1st marriage to Samual Flagg Mann and 10 from her father's first marriage to MArgaret Trotter (all of whom predeceased her)

A US Passport Application shows Elizabeth went to live in Florence, Italy in 1923. She died in the convent of Villa San Girolamo, in Fiesole, a town in the province of Florence in the Italian region of Tuscany, Italy.

The American consular 'Report of Death of American Citizen Abroad' reads:
"Cremated and Ashes deposited in Allory Cemetery, Florence."
It listed her niece Wilhelmina Goodloe as her next of kin, d/o Elizabeth's maternal half-sister Mary Elizabeth (Man) Goodloe.

A conflicting disposition of her ashes comes from a Lexington, KY newspaper:
"Miss Elizabeth Combs at age of 79 of Lexington dies in convent in Florence, Italy. Sister of Hon. Leslie Combs. Body to be cremated and ashes sent to Lexington." [02-17-1931 Herald p. 1 col. 3]

Both sources agree Miss Combs was cremated.
