Ardon Ives served as a fighter pilot in VBF-9 United States Navy in the Pacific during World War II.He survived a crash aboard the USS Lexington on February 25, 1945,but was killed in a dogfight with Japanese fighters on May 22 of the same year.

I checked the city of Rockford cemetery book and Arden Ives died in 1945, during active duty, but he was buried January 26, 1949. Probably after the military released his body.
