"Per the 1900 Census, Robert F Leigh and Lizzie F Leigh were shown in a household together in Bremen, Muhlenberg, Kentucky. They are both interred in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

They were married in KY on 31 DEC 1896.

Lizzie's last will and testament can be found in the Van Buren County, AR last will and testament.

Robert was killed by a Jesse Hardester who confessed to robbery and murdering R.F. Leigh who was found hanged in his house 2 JAN 1932 but died 19 DEC 1932. More info can be found in the 20 JAN 1933 Atkins Chronicle Newspaper microfilm housed at the Atkins Public Library, Pope Co., AR."

"ECCENTRIC CLINTON MAN FOUND MURDERED

Found hanging by a rope with his skull crushed in his home near here, R.F. Leigh, 70, an eccentric widower, was believed by officers to have been murdered by persons seeking money he was reported to have kept hidden in the house.

The house was in disorder, apparently ransacked by the slayers, in their search for the money. A neighbor found the body late yesterday and Sheriff J.W. Halchell began an investigation.

Leigh lived alone on his farm near Rupert, northwest of here since his wife died about two years ago."

Torture murders who are believed to have strangled R.F. Leigh, 82, a farmer living near Rupert, to death in an attempt to make him reveal where he had hidden his money, were sought today by officers.

Leigh was found dangling from a rope slung over a rafter in his home yesterday. Officers believe he had been lifted and lowered as robbers tortured him to force from his the secret of the hiding jplace of his money.

Althogh it was known that he kept a large sum of money in his home, only $135 could be found in a can in the back yard. He had loaned about $10,000 to persons in the community and kept about $3,000 in his home, officers said."

"FARM YOUTHS CONFESS THEY KILLED AGED VAN BUREN COUNTY MAN.
Clinton, Jan. 17. - Two farm youths, aged 17 and 23, have confessed that they tortured and killed an aged man in an effort to force him to disclose the hiding place of money that he was supposed to keep hidden about his home.

The boys are Jesse Hardester, aged 17 of Rupert and Aaron Moody, aged 23 of Copeland. Their victim was R.F. Leigh, aged 78, who lived alone in his farm home near Rupert.

Both boys were taken to the Faulkner county jail at Conway for safekeeping yesterday. They said that their robbery netted them $9.60 and a watch.

Leigh was murdered on the morning of Thursday, December 29. The following day neighbors discovered his body dangling from a rafter of his home. The house had been thoroughly ransacked. Leigh was known to possess considerable money. He had an account in a bank at Morrilton. He was said to have loaned about $10,000 to various farmers of the section in which he lived. Also it was rumored that he kept large sums of money about his home."

"SLAYERS OF LEIGH GIVEN LIFE TERMS
Clinton, Ark., Feb. 22. (AP)
A life time of imprisonment has been meted out to each of two youths who tortured an aged recluse to death in an attempt to extract the secret of a hidden board and got $9 and a watch for their pains.

Jesse Hardester, 17 and Aaron Moody, 22, late yesterday, were convicted of the murder of R.F. Leigh on his lonely north Arkansas farm by a jury which deliberated since midnight.

The death penalty was asked by the prosecution by the defense sought life imprisonment on the plea the pair did not intend to kill the old man when they strung him up to learn where his money was hidden. He kept his secret."
