William Ambrose was a lumberman in a mill and followed the trade of his father, working as a carpenter. He was a resident of Ferrisburg his entire life. He married Edith Evalyn Emery on May 7, 1927 in Ferrisburg. He and his family lived next door to his grandfather, Lewis Collett, who had taken in William's mother, Mary Collett Ambrose and William's sister, Margaret, upon the separation of William's parents. William died of la grippe at the age of 30, leaving a young widow and two young daughters, Anna May, who had been born in 1927 and Gertrude Elizabeth Ambrose, born in 1929.
