Sam Adair was born in 1882 in Albion County, Missouri. He moved to the Bear Lodge Country in Crook County, Wyoming with his parents when he was six years old. His father died about three months after they got settled -- leaving his wife with their son, Sam, an older brother, Jim, and two daughters, Minnie and Myrtle. Mrs. Adair later married Cary Derrickson and had more children. Sam said Mr. Derrickson was the greatest stepfather a boy ever had. -- info from "Pioneers of Crook County"
