OBITUARY

February 1952 - The Greenville Piedmont

A. J. Lister, 71, Dies Here Monday

Funeral services for Andrew J. (Jack) Lister, 71, who died Monday afternoon at his home, 16 Foister Street, off Furman Hall road, will be held Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Eden Holiness Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. J. H. Pittman, the Rev. H. F. McIntyre and the Rev. Clyde Allen. The place of interment will be announced later.

Active pallbearers: Jimmie Owens, Leon Southerland, Lake Masters, Russell Masters, Fred Lister and W. B. Dill.

Honorary pallbearers: the Rev. W. D. Rackley, the Rev. Roy Bagwell, the Rev. J. W. Kelly, Newt Quinn, Lee Hall, W. H. Surratt, Frank Thompson, Dr. J. E. Crosland, L. W. Batson, H. C. Renfroe, Randolph Barnett, T. J. Cisson, Cicero Ward, Preston Batson and G. B. Stokes.

Flower girls: Misses Jo Ann Lister, Elaine Lister, Evelyn Lister and Mary Alice Batson.

Mr. Lister had lived in Greenville for 30 years and was employed at Poe Mill for many years before his retirement. He spent his early life in the Gowansville section of the county and was a son of the late William B. and Sallie Childress Lister.

Mr. Lister was the originator and first president of the Holiness Baptist Singing Convention which later became known as the Greater Greenville Singing Convention.

He was a member, deacon and trustee of Eden Holiness Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elmina M. Lister; five sons, J. F. Lister of Piedmont, Route 2; W. H., A. C., L. B., and R. L. Lister, all of Greenville; four daughters, Mrs. G. F. Foister, Misses Helen and Gladys Lister, all of Greenville, and Mrs. M. B. Hicks of Piedmont, Route 2; three sisters, Mrs. K. E. Newsom, Mrs. W. A. Owings and Mrs. E. W. Southerland, all of Greenville, and 14 grandchildren.

After 3 p.m. today the body will be at the residence. Thomas McAfee, funeral directors.
