Joseph J. Curran, age 81, of Weymouth, originally of North Quincy, went home to God March 25. He died peacefully in his home after a long illness. Son of the late Joseph an Ellen (Hallahan) Curran of North Quincy, he was the beloved husband of 56 years to Joan (Dalto) Curran; devoted father of Mary Riley and her husband Chip of Hanover, Kathy Maynard and her husband Tim of Weymouth, Joanne Curran of Weymouth, Joseph Curran and his wife Karen of Gilbert, Ariz., and Anthony Curran and his wife Michele of Braintree; also loving grandfather of Bill, Joanna and Danny Riley, Andrew, Kate and Joseph Maynard and Elizabeth, Alison, Jessica and Erika Curran; and great-grandfather of Caden Maynard; brother of the late Mary Butts of Rockland, formerly of North Quincy. Joe was a graduate of Northeastern University and worked as a principal engineer for General Electric Co. in Lynn for 36 years. He was instrumental in designing the engine control systems for many aircraft, including the Black Hawk and Apache helicopters. He was an active member of St. Jerome Parish, where he served as a lector and chairman of the Stewardship Committee and Capital Campaign. He also volunteered at the Weymouth Food Pantry, Servants of Christ Ministries, and as a master tradesman for all of his children. When he was not tutoring his children and their friends in advanced mathematics, Joe enjoyed sailing, traveling (especially the planning), woodworking and spending time with his family. Joe was a gentle man who taught by example. He engendered the virtues of faith, honesty and peace. He was patient and accepting of all and inspired these attributes in others. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Monday 4-8 p.m. in the McDonald Funeral Home, at 40 Sea St. (off Rte. 3A-Bicknell Square), North Weymouth. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday prior to the funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth, at 10 a.m. Burial in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Weymouth.
