Clifford Long, age 81, of Algona, died on Thursday March 28, 2013 at the Algona Good Samaritan Care Center. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona, with Rev. Ed Girres officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the VFW Post #2541 and the Hagg-Turner American Legion Post #90 of Algona. Visitation will be 5 – 8 pm Tuesday at Lentz Funeral Home in Algona, with a 5 pm rosary and a 7:30 pm scripture service.

Clifford Ray Long, the son of Clifford and Mary Frances (Sinmons) Long, was born on April 10, 1931 in Watseka, Illinois. He graduated from Ottawa Township High School in 1949, he then attended the University of Iowa for one year. Cliff serve in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-55. On May 22, 1958 he was united in marriage with Rita Mae Deal in Tracy, Minnesota. Cliff had worked as a sign painter and artist. He was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church, past member of the Algona Area Chamber of Commerce, Izaak Walton League, the Stinson Prairie Arts Council and he had served as a 4H leader.

Left to cherish Cliff's memory is his wife of 54 years, Rita; a daughter, Amy Fletcher of Sioux City; a son, Brian Long of Algona; three grandchildren, Tessa (Chad) Fletcher, Mike Fletcher and Matthew Long; four great grandchildren, Kaylie, Lily, James and Taylor Jorgensen; and a sister, Betty Wallace of Fredrick, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Ray and Mary Louise Deal; and two brother-in-laws, Leo Wallace and Raymond Benedict.
