Son of Stephen Floyd and Mahala Jane Terrell from Knox County Kentucky that migrated to Ft Worth TX and Oklahoma.

Letter from William Meeks Johnson to Samatha Ellen and her husband Joseph Henry Floyd, appartenly Joseph was in trouble with the law: (SIC)

Dear Son and daughter I seat myself to answer your letter Which we have just recieved and was glad to hear you was all well this leaves us all as well as cold be Expected (Sribble) your Mothers foot has got so she can walk about the house without a crutch when she goes in mud she has to have a crutch her foot and ankel is twisted till she has to walk on the edg of her foot. Tell the boyes that I am looking for 7 young lambs write away and my sow has 7 young piges and if tho will come Back I will give one of them a lambe and the other one a pig now Henry I tell you about your inditements I couldent get Boyed and Eversole to dismiss the inditements for less than $50 fifty dollars I node tho was going out of office and Judge Morrow and Luster a coming in and I went and seede Luster and he told me to wait till he got in and he wod do a heap better then $50 fifty dollars When I got yur leter court was going on and I wrote a letter to Luster and sent Sam down with it this weak and sent $10 dollars I thought maby that would git it out but Luster said he cared nothing about his fee that he would go and talk to the Judge and git him down Just as low as he could he went and talked to the Judge and got him to agree to let you confess a Judgement of $25 dollars Luster would of come a heap lower if the Judge would Luster says if you want to come Back to come wright on that he will see that you don't pay but the $25 dollars and for the judgement and serving the Writs the cost Wont be more than $2 dollars that is the best that I can do with them at this time if you want to come Back come on and I will help you pay out I will see the Sheriff and git him to not make any arrest till Luster orders him to Circuit Court will come again in May. Now I will tell you a bout my trading I sold my little mill (or mule) for 64 busel of courn and I have rented the Rocks to J C Macky for 26 bushels of courn a year he payes me every week I sold my Steers for $50 dollars and swaped my mare to a yoke of 2 year old and a hieffer one year ld and got 10 dayes Work to boot my steers is deep wred and very nice cattle I Have 3 good mules is all the horse stock I have so no more at this time write as soon as you git this letter and let me no whot you are a going to do tell Ellen and the Boyes to write when thay think thay will come Back. Unconfirmed family reports say Joseph was killed in an accident involving a horse and whiskey at age 35.
