Theodore was the son of Stephen Sarkis Sookiasian and Nellie Flysher. He was married to Mary Edith Sookiasian and was working as a security guard in his last years. He died of pneumonia due to viral meningitis a few months after his wife's death. He was cremated and his remains went unclaimed at the funeral home for decades, until a change in state law allowed relatives to be notified, after which he was finally buried in January 2020 in a full military ceremony attended by many members of the community.
