Gertrude Troth, age 95, of Huron died Monday, March 25, 2013, at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron, South Dakota.
Gertrude Maurine (Callison) Troth was born March 28, 1917 to William and Cora (Grace Pinney) Callison in Plankinton, SD. After graduating from Rapid City High School, she attended Black Hills Teacher College.
Gertrude married William Troth on May 25, 1938 in Greeley, CO. For many years, Gert taught at country schools and in Wessington, SD. Bill and Gert lived in the Miller area until 1942 when they purchased a ranch near Rose Hill Lake south of Wessington. They were members of the Rose Hill Presbyterian Church where Gert taught Sunday school for several years. In 1983, Bill and Gert retired to Huron, SD. Gert spent the last few years living at SunQuest Village and StoneyBrook Suites in Huron.
Gertrude is survived by two sons, Richard (Carla) Troth of Columbia, MO, James (Judy) Troth of Wessington, SD; one daughter, June (Don) Fernholz of Wadsworth, OH; one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Troth of Cherokee, IA; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William in 2003; daughter, Phyllis; son, William Jr.; one brother, Grove Callison; two sisters, Dora Johnson and Mildred Connor.
Funeral: Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Welter Funeral Home, Huron, SD.
Burial: Rose Hill Cemetery southwest of Wessington, SD.
