J.W. Doolan, a well-known resident of our city where he has lived since 1866, died Friday after several months of illness from a combination of lung and heart disease.
The deceased was born 65 years ago in Ireland and came to America as a 2-year old child. His parents settled in Kossuth and the deceased lived there ever since. He served with the 21st Wisconsin Regiment during the Civil War and came back to Manitowoc after his discharge. He is survived by a widow, 7 children, 2 brothers and a sister. The funeral was held Monday from Sacred Heart Church. The local post of the G.A.R., to which Doolan belonged, gave their old comrade the last salute.

John Doolan, a resident of this city for thirty-nine years, passed away at the family residence on North Fifth street last Friday afternoon, after an illness extending over a period of several months, the immediate cause of his demise being puenmonia and heart disease.
The decedent was a native of Ireland. He was born in 1842. He came to America with his Parents when he was two years of age. The family resided in the East for several years and then came to this county settling in the town of Kossuth. In 1862 John Doolan enlisted in Company K. Twenty-first Wisconsin regiment. After the war Mr. Doolan took up his residence in this city, where he had resided continuously since. He was a carpenter by trade, and he continued to work at his trade until failing health rendered his retirement necessary.
He was married in 1866 to Ellen Reardon, who, with four daughters and three sons, survive him. The children are; Miss Margaret Doolan, city: Mrs. Fred Eggers, Two Rivers; Mrs. Edward Hall, Green Bay; Mrs. John Mahon, Duluth; William Doolan, Two Rivers; Henry Milwaukee; and John of this city. Two sisters and two brothers also survive. The brothers are P. H. Doolan of Seattle, Wash., and B. J. Doolan of Virginia, Minn.
The decedent was a member of the H.W. Walker post, G.A.R. He was also a member
of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin.
The funeral was held Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock from the Sacred Heart church,
Rev. O'Leary performing the last sad rites. The members of the Walker Post had charge
of the service at the grave. Members of the local lodge of Catholic Knights of Wisconsin
also attended the obsequies.
Mr. John Doolan was well and favorably known in the city and county. He will be missed
by a large circle of friends.

Death has sounded the bugle to call another civil war veteran to final muster and John Doolan, one of the best known residents of the city has joined the increasing majority, his demise occuring at the family home on N. Fifth street late Friday afternoon. Mr. Doolan had been ill for several months but his condition was thought to be improved and death came as a terrible shock to the family. Pneumonia and heart trouble was the immediate cause of the demise.
Residing in this city for forty-five years, Mr. Doolan was widely known and was a man who was held in esteem by all who knew him. Born in Ireland, his parents came to America when the boy was but two years old and after two years in the east, came to Manitwoc. As a youth Mr. Doolan carried mail between this city and Two Rivers and later followed railroading. In 1862 he enlisted in Co. K, 21st, Wis., Reg. and was distinguished as a brave soldier. In 1866, descedent was married to Ellen Reardon, who, with, seven children survive, being William, Two Rivers, Henry, Milwaukee, John, this city, Mrs. E. Hall, Green Bay, Mrs. F. Eggers, Two Rivers, Mrs. J. Mahon, Duluth and Miss Margaret this city. Two brothers and two sisters also survive.
Mr. Doolan was a member of the G. A. R. and was active in its work and Walker Post will attend the funeral Monday and conduct the services at the grave. The funeral will be held from Scared Heart church at 9:30.
