Leona was the daughter of the late Leo Salvaterra and Albina Eckert. Albina immigrated from the northern part of Italy (the Alps near Switzerland). They are buried in Hazelton, PA.

Leona was a Registered Nurse with a focus on Psychiatric Nursing.

She was a dedicated Italian wife and mother to her two sons, John and Gregory. She supported their love of soccer, and worked tirelessly volunteering in their community though she battled various cancer recurrences.

In the late 1960's after being told she had only a few months to live, the Cane family traveled to Saint Anne De Beaupre Quebec, Canada to pray at the Catholic shrine; God granted a miracle for her to survive many more years.

She was known for her amazing cake decorating talents.

Her motto was "God never closes a door but he opens a window!"

Though she yearned for a daughter named Samantha that was not to be; the named carried on to their family dogs!

Through her pain & suffering from the cancers she never complained, always smiling, & always offering help to others. A true woman of strength, courage, and love for all.
