He was living at Killaghtee, Co Donegal at the time of his first marriage (CofI) to Catherine Scott, in 1854. His occupation in 1879 (aged 46) was schoolmaster, as listed on his son Williams marriage certificate. In 1886, two years after the passing of wife Catherine in 1884, John married (Presbyterian) Martha Seaton in Carnone, Raphoe Co Donegal.
By the time of the 1901 Census of Ireland, both John and Martha's occupations were now "Retired N.S. Teacher Farming". In the 1911 Census of Ireland John is listed as "Farmer".
John lived the majority of his life in Drumcoe, Co Donegal in the parish of Inver, at least from 1864 (birthplace of son Joseph) through to his passing in 1916.
John had twenty (confirmed) children in all, ten to each of his wives, though family lore suggests three further children (unconfirmed) to the first marriage.

Headstone doesn't seem to exist. I have a request out to the church to locate the burial plot.
