Robert R. Hagy

Mr. Robert R. Hagy, age 88, loving husband, father, grandfather and good friend of Garden Creek, VA passed away Saturday April 2, 2005 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA.


He was born on December 20, 1916 in Panther, WV and was the son of the late Nathan & Cordelia Roberts Hagy. He had been a resident of Oakwood, VA for the past 66 years. He retired from United Supply, Oakwood, VA. He was a veteran of WW II and served in the European Theater of Operations in the Infantry Unit in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a member of the Garden Creek Church of Christ.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Lori Lynn Grose, and son-in-law Jack R. Grose, five sisters and three brothers.


Mr. Hagy is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 65 years Mrs. Opal Hagy, two daughters Mrs. Brenda H. Grose of Abingdon, VA and Mrs. Debra L. Hicks & husband Randy G. Hicks of Pilgrim Knob, VA three Grandchildren Dr. Robert Grose & wife Judi, Nathan Hicks & Benjamin Hicks, one Sister Marilyn Cruise of Abingdon, VA, several nieces and nephews also survive.


Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday April 5, 2005 in the Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel at Keen Mountain, VA with Rev. Ancil Childress & Rev. Jerry Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery at Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be Grandsons Dr. Robert Grose, Nathan Hicks, Benjamin Hicks, son-in-law Randy Hicks, great nephew Robert Wilson and long time friend Robert McCracken. Honorary Pallbearers will be Junior Belcher, Ural Childress, nephews and members of the Garden Creek Church of Christ.

The Family will receive friends at the Buchanan Funeral Service at Keen Mountain, VA from 6-9 P.M. Monday.
