Coral's Obituary:

RED LODGE — On Sunday, Oct. 22 our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Coral A. "Toots" Castagne, age 83, went to be with our Lord.
Coral was born on Aug. 27, 1917 in Nibbe, a daughter of Charles and Elsie Prigge. She lived and played in the shadow of Pompey's Pillar as the eldest sibling of four brothers and one sister. When she was eight, her family moved to a ranch west of Red Lodge. She completed high school in Manhattan while caring for her grandmother. Coral had dreams of becoming a nurse, but instead met and married James Castagne on Nov. 6, 1938 in Red Lodge. They honeymooned in Calgary, Canada, and returned to the Red Lodge area where they operated a cattle ranch, raising Herefords and Timothy hay.

She was a valued member in her community, and was active in the Cowbelles, the Draper Club, VFW Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors and Women of the Moose. With her giving nature, she volunteered with the Festival of Nations, cooked for the music festival, taught Sunday school and bible study at the Red Lodge Community Church, led Brownie Scouts and assisted the American Cancer Society and Easter Seals, as well as helping her neighbors whenever needed.

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cooking for her family, solving puzzles, gardening and various other crafts. With strong will and determination, she accomplished these things despite struggling with debilitating arthritis for most of her life.

Coral was preceded in death by her brothers Art, Gene and Sonny Prigge; her sister Phyllis Muratore; and her infant son, John Lawrence Castagne.Survivors include her husband of 63 years, James "Jimmy" Castagne of Red Lodge; two daughters, Joan (Tom) Brown of Red Lodge and Karen Castagne of Billings; one son, Joe (Betty) Castagne of Red Lodge; nine grandchildren, James (Pat) Brown, Vince Caton, Jason (Tanya) Brown, Valerie Caton, Trent Brown, Shawna (Marty) O'Toole, Andrea (Aaron) Stieg, Laura (Jerry) Malcomson, and Tiffany Castagne; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Prigge; and four brothers-in-law, Gene Muratore, and Frank, Joseph, and Max Castagne. "You have given us many wonderful memories; we love you, Godspeed."

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26 at the Red Lodge Community Church. Cremation has taken place, and interment will be at a later date in the Red Lodge Cemetery. Olcott Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to the charity of one's choice.
