Detroit Lakes native Bill Gene Bartness, 83, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013 in Tacoma, Wash.

A memorial service was held in Puyallup, Wash.

Bill was born to Clarence and Annie Bartness on January 10, 1930, north of Detroit Lakes. He was a graduate of Detroit Lakes High School and served in the U.S. Army as a military police officer.

Upon his discharge Bill went to work for Kaiser Aluminum in Tacoma. He met Ardene Mattfeld, of Perham, while she was visiting her sister in Washington, and they were married in September of 1957. They made their home in Puyallup.

Bill made many trips back to Minnesota over the years, to visit with relatives and friends.

He is survived by his wife Ardene; his three children, Denise, mark and Christopher; and many grandchildren, all in Washington State.

Also surviving Bill are his two sisters, Cherice Anderson of Minneapolis and Elsie Patrow of Hoyt Lakes, Minn. He will be greatly missed.
