The funeral for Willard "Blackie" Swanson Brown, 75, of 3414 Axton Road, Axton, who died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2007, at his home, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church in Axton. Pastor Gary Robertson and the Rev. Lem Hardison will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the church from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday and other times at the home of his daughter, Sandra W. Davis, 212 Wimbish Road, Eden, N.C.
Brown was born in Franklin County on Feb. 9, 1932, to Elder Rufus Brown and Sallie Dillon Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Katherine Minter Pulliam Brown; and brothers, Warren Brown, Edward Brown, Wilber Brown, Tyler Brown and Harrison Brown.
He retired as a mechanic at Stone Container Corp., and he was a member of Mount Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Surviving, in addition to his daughter, Sandra W. Davis of Eden, are two sons, Robert A. Pulliam of Axton and Dickie Pulliam of Moneta; four sisters, Barbara Bruce of Morristown, Tenn., Juanita Hodges of Sydnorsville, Hettie Minter of Martinsville and Zelma Reed of Lynchburg; four brothers, Jake Brown of Cleveland, Ohio, Joe Brown of Gladehill, Doc Brown of Moneta and Curtis Brown of Bassett; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are by Norris Funeral Services and Crematory in Martinsville.
