Paul Clinton Bull, 89, of La Grande, died November 26 at a local care center.
Viewing will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon Friday at Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 Fourth Street. The funeral will begin at 1 p.m. at Loveland Friday with Reverend Susan Smith-Allen officiating. A reception will follow at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. There will be a graveside service for family only.
Mr. Bull was born February 7, 1911, to Charles C. and Muriel L. Goodnough Bull in La Grande. He graduated from La Grande High School in 1929 while working for the Blue Mountain Creamery. He attended Eastern Oregon Normal School during winter terms and worked for the Oregon State Highway Department during the rest of the year.
He married Marie Young on October 2, 1932, at the home of her brother in The Dalles. The couple lived in Portland for a short time then returned to La Grande where Mr. Bull operated a service station, then worked for Perkins Motor Company both in
La Grande and in Enterprise.
In 1941, Mr. Bull began working for the Union Pacific Railroad as a fireman and was promoted to Engineer in 1944. He retired in 1973. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen and the United Transportation Union.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, bowling crossword puzzles and using his metal detector. He was a lifetime member of St. Peter's Church, a charter member of the Mount Emily Good Sams Club and a member of the Elk's Lodge. He was voted Elk of the Year in 1991-1992.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverley Garrison of Redmond; a son Robert Bull of La Grande; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and other relatives. His wife, Marie, died earlier.
Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the St. Peter's Endowment Fund or to the Grande Ronde Hospice in care of Loveland Funeral Chapel.
