Obituary-August J. Kohl, 62, Dies Sunday; Funeral on Wednesday

August J. Kohl, 62 residing at 1601 W 4th St. Sterling, died suddenly at 10:20 a.m. Sunday in Community General Hospital. The body was removed to the Trouth Funeral Home where friends may call at any time. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Dr. Alfred L. Grewe, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery. He was born Dec., 5, 1892 in Ashton, Ill., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kohl. He received his education in the Sterling schools and he lived in this city nearly all his life. He was married to Marietta Ferry, Feb. 9, 1923. Kohl was an ardent baseball fan and played with the Sterling Indians team many years ago. He saw service during World War I, serving in Siberia with the 27th Infantry Division. For 31 years he had been employed at the Frantz Manufacturing Company. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of the Rock Falls American Legion and the Sterling Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Surviving him are his wife, one daughter Mrs. Arza Spooner; two sisters, Mrs. James McFadden of Sterling and Mrs. Earl McDonnell of Metropolis, Ill., and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Frank, and one nephew.
