George Richard Gautier, Confederate Veteran, was born in 1839. He came to Texas in 1856 from Missouri. In 1861, he enlisted in Co. A, 14th Texas Calvary in Churchills Brigade, Tennessee Army. During the war Mr. Gautier was shot in the left leg. He continued to serve until the close of the war in 1865. In 1875, he married Bettie Gautier, who was born January 18, 1855, in Alabama. After their marriage, they moved to Travis County, Austin, Texas in 1898. It was during this year that George Gautier was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home on May 15, 1898. Later, on December 1, 1903, Mr. Gautier left the Confederate Men's Home by his own request, but returned to the Home on November 22, 1907. He died at the Home on June 6, 1924 and is buried in the Texas State Cemetery.
