William T. McCallie
Was born July 27, 1792 in Fayette County, Kentucky To Andrew & Martha (Todd) McCallie.
William grew up around Lexington and served as a Private in Captain David Todd's Company, 1 Reg't. Kentucky Mounted Vol. Milita in the War of 1812. He served from August 27 to November 5, 1813 and was paid $8 per month, plus 40 cents per day allowance for use of his horse. The company muster roll is from Limestone, Kentucky and he received a total of $46.98 for his two month and 10 day- service in the war of 1812. He later made application and received 40 acres of land for his service in the war of 1812. William T. McCallie married Mary Higgins on February 22, 1816 and to this union were born four Children, Theodore H. McCallie December 26, 1816 / Ellen Mary McCallie August 28, 1818 / Catherine Ann "Kate" McCallie August 25, 1826 / Rebecca J. E. McCallie February 12, 1831. Somtime during this period, the family moved from Kentucky to McMinn County, Tennessee. It was prior to 1829 since William T. McCallie is listed on the tax roll in McMinn County in 1829. Mary Higgins must have died beteween 1831 & 1838 because William T. McCallie applied for a marriage license October 16, 1838,to marry Elizabeth Perryman and was married on 25 October 1838 by William McKamy, Justice of the Peace. There were no children born to this marriage, and apparently Elizabeth Perryman died because Willliam T. McCallie applied for a marriage license to marry Mary ann Hanks on September 16,1842 and they were married by Joel Culpepper, Justice of the Peace, on September 18,1842."Note" at the time of the marriage William T. was 50 yrs old and Mary Ann was 15 yrs old, that was a 35 year difference in their age. Mary Ann Hanks was the cousin to Nancy Hanks, the mother of Abraham Lincoln. Mary Ann's first marriage was said to have been to a man named Forgey, (supposedly and Indian Prince) who was killed shortly after the marriage but that has not been confirmed. Beteween William T. & Mary Ann Hanks there were two children born to this marriage. Alice Helen McCallie June 25, 1845 in Athens,(McMinn County) Tennessee. And John Henry McCallie April 26, 1847 in Chattanooga, (Hamilton County) Tennessee. William T. McCallie died September 02, 1850 in Calhoun,(McMinn County) Tennessee and is buried at Shiloh Presbyterian Cemetery in Calhoun,Tennessee.
