Jesse was the seventh child born to George L and Sarah Simpson Livingston. He was born in Licking County, Ohio and moved with the family to the Lewistown twnshp, Fulton County, Illinois in 1849. He enlisted in Company A, Illinois 103rd Infantry on August 20, 1862.

Three of his brothers enlisted around the same time. They participated in the battles from Kennesaw Mountain, Mission Ridge at Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga, Tn, where brother Isaac was wounded, to the siege of Atlanta, Ga, where brother William was killed. Jesse received his muster out orders Jun 21, 1865, at Nashville, Tn, and was discharged Jul 9, 1865, at Chicago, Ill.

He applied for an Invalid Pension on May 4, 1866, Application # 107659, Certificate # 81217 for wounds received during the war.

He married Martha A Dennis on March 12, 1868. Son John W was born in 1870 and son Edward was born in 1875.

He is listed in the 1870 federal census age 30 and in the 1900 federal census age 61. He died Sep 6, 1903.

He is listed on the 1929 Illinois Roll of Honor on page 3 with his brother John L, in the Oak Hill Cemetery. That is why we have entered his memorial here.
