OPEN NEW FLORAL, ARTS SHOP FOR BUSINESS IN CARIBOU
A new business opened in Caribou recently is a florist shop located on Record Street.
Under the name of Floral Arts Shop, it is owned and operated by Mrs. Gladys Wark and Mrs. Augusta Estes. it features a complete line of flowers for all occasions. Both women have had several years experience in floral designing.
Also featured in the shop are novelties, some of the hand-crafted type and others mass-produced.
During the opening 300 roses were given away to ladies and 75 carnations to men who visited the new establishment.
Winner of the door prizes were Beverly Sodergren of Stockholm and Natalie M. Anderson of Caribou.

BRANDON FLA - Augusta G. Shepard Estes Slavin, "Gussie", 81, of Brandon, FL, died Aug 5 1994, of Good Pastures Disease, at Brandon Hospital in Brandon FL.
She was born in Caribou, ME on Mar 9, 1913 to Charles Franklin "Frank" and Clara Tracy Shepard.
She married Aubrey W. Estes Nov. 15, 1929 in Caribou ME and lived in Caribou until 1964. Moving to Tampa, FL after her husband's death in 1963.
She was a talented floral designer, a seamstress and lover of crafts , and loved to play bingo.
She is survived by two sons, Aubrey E. "Sonny" Estes of Parrish FL; William F. "Bill" Estes (Donna) of Austin TX; 1 daughter, Lois Burnett (Bill) of Ft. Drum, Rumulus N.Y.; her granddaughter, Cavelle Hersey Kanizai who she raised after her mother's death; 6 other grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Aubrey in 1963; her second husband Ed in 1971; her daughter Roberta Estes Hersey in 1973; 8 brothers and sisters and one granddaughter Leah Michelle Estes in 1979.
"Gussie" was cremated and her ashes now rest in Austin TX.

She died of Good Pasture Disease - The syndrome is named for the pioneering American pathologist Ernest William Goodpasture (1886-1960) who discovered it during the influenza pandemic of 1918.
