JOHN R. ISAACKS PASSED AWAY TUESDAY NIGHT

John R. Isaacs, of New Berlin, a former resident of Waverly, passed away at St. John's hospital in Springfield, Tuesday night, October 16th following an illness of about two weeks.
The deceased was born May 30, 1907, son of John H. and Nara Dennis Isaacks. Prior to his graduation from Waverly High School in 1926 he had made a name for himself as a football player with the local school being named to the Central Illinois All-Star team and receiving honorable mention on the Chicago Journal's All-State eleven. Continuing his education at Chillicothe Business College he earned further gridiron laurels when he was named on the Missouri State Conference All-Star team in 1929.
He began work as a telegraph operator for the C. S. & St. L. railroad before assuming the same type duties with the Wabash. At the time of his death he was serving the latter railroad as station agent at New Berlin.
He was married to Helen Nickelson in Springfield on August 8, 1936. She survives along with the following children: Mrs. Norma Woods of Waverly; Mrs. Norma Reichart of New Berlin; one son, John Ray Jr., at home; one sister, Mrs. Verna Workman of New Berlin and four grandsons.
Mr. Isaacks had served on the New Berlin School board for twelve years and was a member of the Maasonic Lodge at Loami.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock this Friday afternoon at the McCullough Funeral Home in New Berlin. Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery.
