Funeral services for Mrs. Stella W. Toan, 84, whose sudden death from a heart attack Thursday morning, Dec. 17, was noted in these columns last week were held from her late home at 102 North Main street on Saturday afternoon.
Stella Wylie was born at Milltown, Pa., on Dec. 26, 1863, one of six children of James and Mary Thomson Wylie. When she was about two years of age, her parents moved to Perry where her father established a woolen mill on the property at the rear of the present Citizens Bank, sharing the water power with the Andrus lumber mill. The structure burned down in 1878 and the business was discontinued.
She attended Perry Academy, from which she was graduated in 1882, and in 1885 was united in marriage to Charles H. Toan whose death occurred in 1919. Survivors include four children, Lewis A. Toan, Carlos J. Toan and Miss Mary Toan of Perry and Thomas L. Toan of Rochester. A daughter, Margaret, died in 1923. There are seven grandchildren.
