Charles Rufus Arey Jr., 72, of View Drive passed away late Tuesday evening , October 2, 2007, at the Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville.

Born in April of 1935 in Augusta County, he was a son of the late Charles Rufus Sr. and Charlene Livick Arey.

He served in the United States Marine Corps, retired after 35 years of service with Diehl Motors formerly of Stuarts Draft as an auto mechanic and later worked for the former Stanley Furniture Company of Waynesboro.

He was a member of Light House Gospel Church of Waynesboro.

He was a charter member of the Stuarts Draft Rescue Squad and attended the Staunton Braves baseball games.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Yvonne A. Fix.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mary (Harris) Arey; a son, William C. Arey of the residence; daughters, Wanda A. Morrison of Hanover, Pennsylvania, Wilma A. Davis of Stuarts Draft; two brothers, Phillip Arey of Verona, Collis Arey of Colleen, Texas; and three grandsons.

Following cremation a private family burial will follow. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

There will be no viewing or visitation at the funeral home, and the family request due to health circumstances beyond their control, there be no visitation at the residence at this time.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
