A native of Napa, Mrs. Alveraz had been a resident of Santa Cruz since childhood. She graduated from Holy Cross Grammar School and Holy Cross High School. She was an avid golfer and played at Pasatiempo Golf Club. She was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis; Altar Society of Holy Cross Church; Rosary Society of Holy Cross Church; a life member of Holy Cross Church; Chairwoman of the Christmas Committee at St. Michael's Church in Boulder Creek; Native Daughters of the Golden West; Italian Catholic Confederation; and Y.L.I.
She is survived by her daughter, Marguerite Poletti of Santa Cruz; a son, H. Richard Thorn of Beverly Hills; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Alveraz.
A Rosary and a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated this evening at Holy Cross Mission, 126 High St. at 7:30 p.m. Visitiation for family and friends will beat White's Chapel, 138 Walnut today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. White's and Wessendorf Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Private interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Contributions to the Third Order of Saint Francis, Care of St. Claire's Retreat, 2381 Laurel Glen Road, Santa Cruz, 95065 are preferred.
