Former City Marshal Dies

W.B. Hickman, who lived in Sterling some 20 years ago and was a blacksmith here, died at his home at 716 7th St. East, Hutchinson, Monday night. Mr. Hickman served as city marshal here a number of years ago and was known to practically everyone. He is a brother-in-law of Henry Whitzell, of this city.
Mr. Hickman was born in Putnam County, Ind., and moved when but 8 years of age to Illinois with his parents. He was but 16 years old when the Civil War broke out, but he enlisted and served through until the close.
He was married to Miss Olive Whitzel in 1873 and they came to Kansas three years later. Five children were born to this union, only one son, Ed Hickman, of Liberal with the widow surviving.
Mr. Hickman was in the carriage works in Hutchinson from 1900 to 1923 on East Sherman street. Since that time he has been retired from active work.
Funeral services were held in the Johnson funeral home in Hutchinson and the body was brought here and interred in the Sterling cemetery, beside the children who had preceded Mr. Hickman in death.
