Flavie was baptized in the parish of St-Nom-de-Marie and Ste-Marie-de-Monnoir, Marieville, Quebec, Canada on March 15, 1833 under the name of Flavie Surprenant. Her burial record from Sacred Heart Church on the campus of the University of Notre Dame stated her maiden name as Lafontaine, and that she was the wife of Joseph Garseau [later called Garso] That record also stated she was buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery. There is no gravestone or cemetery record of her interment.
