Irma was born Feb. 8, 1907, in Manito, the daughter of Frank Robert and Nelda Heyl Isenburg.
She graduated from Pekin Community High School in 1925, then worked for Tazewell County Home Bureau for two years. She was a 1931 graduate of the University of Illinois and was a home economics teacher at Centennial and Roosevelt junior high schools. Mrs. Allen was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Decatur; Chapter CX, P.E.O.; Millikin Tri Psi; Warrensburg Eastern Star Lodge; Macon County Historical Society; and American Association of University Women. She was a 44-year resident of Decatur.
She married Edward Briggs Allen in 1932 on July 5th. He died in 1988.

They had one daughter, Mary A., two sons, Richard H. and Phillip E . seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
