At the outbreak of the Civil War, he joined Company A of the 14th Arkansas Infantry. He fought for three years. In 1865, Adams moved to Texas and settled in San Angelo, Tom Green County, where he worked as a stockman. In 1899, at age 60, he applied for and received a Confederate Pension. Having never married and claiming general disabilities,
he died on November 24, 1907.
