ADAMS, A. J.
(1845~1917)
According to his Compiled Military Service Record, Adams, on September 25, 1861, at age 15, but claiming he was 18, was mustered into service as a private in Company K of the 10th Texas Cavalry in Quitman, Texas. After serving only about 12 months, Adams was discharged on November 22, 1862, because he lied about his age during enlistment. In his Application for a Confederate Pension, Adams claims that he also served in Company H of the 35th Texas Infantry and was discharged at the end of the War in 1865. Upon examination of this claim in 1905, only his service in the 10th Texas Cavalry could be verified. During the War, Adams, and the 10th Texas participated in the Corinth Campaign, the Kentucky Campaign and the Battle of Richmond.
