Irene Lafferty was born November 5, 1905 in Armour, South Dakota to Patrick Charles Lafferty and Ellen Healey. She resided in Sioux City from 1920 to 1939. She attended Cathedral school, Morningside College, and was graduated from Nebraska State Teachers College in Wayne.
Irene taught school in Sioux City from 1930-1935. She married John E. O’Brien August 8, 1936 in Osseo, Minnesota. She had four children, Patrick (Catherine), Michael (Moira), John (Linda), and Thomas (Cindy).
Irene taught school again at St Jerome 1954/55 and Cowern Elementary 1955-1959. She died from a brain tumor October 22, 1959 at the age of 53. She was a wonderful mother and was missed dearly by her family.
