Anna Elisabeth Benzel was born in Kolb, Russia. Anna married Johann Peter Adler 8 Feb 1882 in Kolb. The family immigrated to America, arriving in New York 10 Apr 1889. They settled in Hastings, Nebraska. Ten children were born to this marriage: Peter [died in infancy), Peter (died in infancy), Anna Maria, Peter, Anna Elisabeth, Henry, George, Jacob, Lydia, and Alexander Adler.

Anna's husband Peter was struck by lightning in 1894 while working fences. She moved her family to Oklahoma, with the help of her brother.
