Mary Ann Bishop was the of wife of Joseph Asbury Bishop,and the mother of 11 children; William,James,Thomas,Claybern,Andrew,Jayhu, Mary,Emiline,Georgia and Texas. Mary was an incredible woman having lived through the Civil War in Georgia and escaping north to Illinois with her children while her husband was in the Confederate Army and later captured and held prisoner by the North until his release. He then joined her in Shelbyville, Illinois and together with their growing family traveled to Collin County, Texas to start their new home. The last child, Texas Malinda California Bishop was born in Texas. Mary held onto her property after her husband died and had acres of cotton which she worked herself with help from a couple of her sons. She was a true pioneer of early Collin County.
