Funeral services for William C. Schmidt, an employee of Tilley's Nursery and a former farmer of Otoe County will be held at 1:30 o'clock Monday afternoon in the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. O. A. Graebner, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, will conduct the service. Burial is to be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Schmidt died late Wednesday evening in the family home at 104 West 11th. He had lived all of his life in Nebraska. He was born Sept. 24, 1894, in Otoe County, near Syracuse. He attended school there.
He and Miss Rebecca Rippe were married Aug. 6, 1914, at Syracuse. They began their home on a farm near Syracuse and successfully operated the farm until four years ago. Then, they left the farm and came to Grand Island.
Here, Mr. Schmidt was employed by Andrew Kittel, cement contractor for two years. For the last two years, he has been employed by Tilley's Nursery.
Mr. Schmidt was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the North Branch Church near Syracuse. He had attended services in Trinity Lutheran Church here.
Mr. Schmidt is survived by his wife; three children, Harry Schmidt of Unadilla, Mrs. Henry Homfeld of Grand Island and Mrs. Rex Morris of Wood River; a brother, Ernest Schmidt of Syracuse; a sister, Mrs. Julius Stroetker of Madrid, Iowa; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one son, Merl Schmidt, who died in childhood; his parents; and one brother, Harry Schmidt.
