An auto mechanic by trade, he was employed for many years in Grangeville, Idaho. Shortly before the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, the family moved to Portland, Oregon. There he worked as a welder in the Commercial Iron Works for the duration of the war. Thereafter he followed the mechanic trade in both Portland and Vancouver, Washington. In the summer of 1949, they moved to Vancouver where they resided at the time of his death on June 16, 1973."
