96, of Indianapolis, died on March 10, 2013. She was born to the late Ray and Ruth Hawk (Stump) in Lanark, IL on August 21, 1916. She was the Valedictorian at both Lanark High School and North Manchester College. Dorothy was a physical education teacher at John Strange Elementary School from 1955-1982. She was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, Stansfield Circle, Indiana Retired Teachers Association and a Castleton mall walker.
Dorothy was an avid baker and loved music, reading, boating, animals and spending time with her beloved great grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by husband, Paul E. Merriman and sister, Beth Heath. She is survived by daughter, Patricia R. Dunbar (Richard); sister, Carol Crosley (Jack); six grandchildren, Cindy Vogel (Kurt), Kelly Dunbar (Samantha), Todd Copeland, Patrick Dunbar (Don), Dean Dunbar (Shannon) and Nicole Flynn (Dr. Brad); seven great grandchildren, Katrina, William, Megan, Kylie, Charley, Kendall and Corbin; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was "Nana" to many and will be forever loved and missed by us all.
Family and friends will gather on Saturday, March 16th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel . Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Northminster Presbyterian Church, with burial immediately following the service in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
