D'Iberville-Biloxi

Elwood Henry Batia, 96, of the D'Iberville-Biloxi area went to be with his Heavenly Father on March 11, 2013.

Elwood was born on February 4, 1917 in D'Iberville, MS. He was a lifelong resident of the D'Iberville and Biloxi area. He was a devoted Catholic. At a young age he enlisted in the army, where he proudly served our country in WWII. After serving our country, Elwood went to work for the Dept. of the Air Force were he retired after 26 years of civil service.

In his earlier years he enjoyed fishing with his wife. He was a southern gentleman and was known as a good man who always had a smile on his face. As he got older his favorite past time was to visit Boomtown Casino to play the slot machines.

Elwood is preceed in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Erma Lee Batia; his parents, Jack and Clotilde Tiblier-Batia; and his brothers and sister, Eugene Batia, Edwin Batia, Lillian Batia-Lawrence, Alphofene Batia-Fayard, Carroll Batia, Sr. and Violet Batia.

He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephew. He was loved by all family and friends and will be sadly missed.

Pallbearers will be Carl Schafer, Johnny Fayard, Chris Linthicum, Gary McGinn, Carroll Batia, III, Gene Batia, J.R. Lawrence and Donald Batia.

Funeral services will be at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Little Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
