Noah John Wheeler was a farmer. In addition to many things, he had a large apple and peach orchard. It's "rumored" within the family that he had a "contract" with the government to provide apple and peach brandy, which he made, to the soldiers. He married Ida Mae Wheeler and they had 15 children. There was a separate outside building close to the home and he used that as an office and it is said that some of the older boys slept in there. my father's name was BEALIE Wheeler...actual spelling, and no middle name. His father was Noah Wheeler, and had 'The Old Home place', which is located about a quarter mile off what is now known as 'the bypass' near Jackson. The area is known as Rich Square, I think. His brother John was the jailer in Jackson and his brother Charlie was a policeman there. I think my grandfather was born in 1859. There is a family plot being kept at the home place (which has been owned by others for some time now) and I have seen the names and dates of those buried there...my father and his brother Robert being the last ones buried there.

There is a story about my grandfather, Noah, that may or may not be true. When he was about 3 or 4 years old, General Ransom camped his army on my great-grandfather's land while on the way to head off the Yankees coming down the Halifax Rail Road out of Virginia. The general rode into the yard and my grandfather was almost stepped on by the general's horse.
