OBIT. - A Mass of Christian Burial for William Leo Caldwell, 82, of Monroe City, was at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 14 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Monroe City. The Rev. Henry Reichert officiated. Burial was in the Holy Rosary Cemetery. Mr. Caldwell died at 9:45 a.m. October 11, 1989 at his home. He was born April 21, 1907 in Lakenan to James William and Rosanna Riley Caldwell. He was married to Alberta Eckman on March 20, 1937 in Kansas City and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Richard Caldwell and Ronald Caldwell, both of Monroe City; five daughters, Erma Kaufman or Bennett Springs, Phyllis Watson of Kansas City, Kathleen Douglas and Patricia Kendrick, both of Monroe City, and Karen Eilers of Golden, Illinois; two brothers, Riley (Bob) Caldwell of Columbia and Paul Caldwell of Lakenan; three sisters, Agnes O'Laughlin and Loretta Power, both of Shelbina, and Emma Hubble of Quincy, Illinois; 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Caldwell was a retired Marion county farmer. He attended Greenwell School in Monroe County and was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
