MRS. MARTIN COURTAD
Dies at Home of Her Daughter in This City
Mrs. Martin Courtad died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lena Strasser, on West Findlay Street, Monday afternoon at 4:45 o'clock. Death was due to a compliation of diseases, after a two week illness.
Eva Simonis was born in Bavaria, Germany, Apr. 1, 1832, and attained the age of 80 years, 3 months and 28 days. She came to American when 5 years old with her parents, John and Mary Simonis, who located in Seneca Co. and later resided on a farm, east of this city. She married Apr. 12, 1849, to Martin Courtad, who departed this life March 18, 1910. Mr. and Mrs. Curtad were parents of fourteen children, one of whom, Martin, died July 26, 1881, at the age of 17 years. Those who survive are: Charles Coutad, of Carey; Henry Courtad of Cleveland; Joseph Courtad, of Lima; George Courtad, of Cripple Creek, Colo.; anthony Courtad, of Norwalk; Frank Courtad, of Joplin, Mo.; James Courtad, Michael Courtad, Mrs. Lena Strasser, Mrs. Clint Shafer, Mrs. Harry Houser, of this city; Mrs. Ellsworth Lowry, three miles northeast of this city, and Albert Courtad, residing on the home farm, four miles east of town. She also laves 47 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Catherine Orsinger, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; who is not at the point of death, and two brothers, Henry Simonis and Adam Simonis, of Lima. All the children except George, Joseph, and Frank were at the bedside of their mother when dissolution came.
After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Courtad resided in Sandusky City. Later they moved into the Lake Superior copper mining district and after eighteen monts there moved to a farm in Seneca County, where they lived until 1861, when they came to Wyandot County and bought a farm four miles east of Upper Sandusky. There they resided until the death of Mr. Courtad, since which time Mrs. Courtad had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Strasser, in this city.
Mrs. Courtad was an estimable woman and a devout member of the Catholic church.
The funeral will be held Thursday morning, at 8:00, from St. Peter's church, conducted by Rev. Father John F. Forrer.
