Royal was the son of Rev. L.J. Sr. and Bessie P. Jordan. He was baptized by his father. He graduated with honors from Coleman High School in 1951, cum laude from Tougaloo College in 1955, and Mebarry Dental School in 1960. He served as Captain in the US Air Force. He married Margaret W. McClendon-Cambell in 1966. He was called to the ministry and ordained at St. John. He was the pastor of Mount Calvary until he murdered his wife, then killed himself.

He is survived by his mother, his children, Denita, Mark, Jonathon, Marla, Elizabeth, and Stephen, Royal Jr., Kurt, and Scott F., two grandchildren, his siblings, Bessie Johnson, Rev. L.J. Jordan Jr., Rev. Carl Jordan Sr., and James Jordan Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife, his father, and his sister, Doris Jordan.

Double servies were held at St. John Baptist Church.
