He was born March 19, 1909 southeast of Hepler, a son of Adolf and Wilhelmina (Martens) Bennefeld. He grew up and attended schools in Brazilton.
He married Letha V. Murdock on June 30, 1936, in the Zion Lutheran Church at Brazilton. She preceded him in death on Jan. 13, 2005.
He worked at the Farmers Union Elevator and the Mutch Implement Company, both of Girard, before going into private business as a mechanic.
He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church at rural Hepler on April 12, 1909 and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Brazilton.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard.
Survivors include one son, Gary E. Bennefeld of Plano, Texas; three grandsons; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Helen Engel of Brazilton, Anna Kmiec of Walnut, and Margaret Johnson of Kansas City, Mo.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Susan Elaine Bennefeld on July 27, 1966; and five brothers, Alvin Bennefeld, Ralph Bennefeld, Carl Bennefeld, Henry Bennefeld, and William Bennefeld.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Girard with Rev. Mark Wenzelburger officiating. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.
