Sarah Scull was the daughter of James James and Abigail (Lawrence) James. She married Gideon Scull on April 29, 1784 at Salem Meeting. They resided at Sculltown, New Jersey, where they gave birth to nine children. He died 20th of 4th month 1825.

Sarah Scull was described as a "recommended" minister in the Society of Friends (Quaker). When the congregation divided between the Hicksite and Orthodox group, the Scull family donated the land for a new meetinghouse at Woodstown. This became Sarah Scull's final resting place.
