One of 14 children, he is the son of Dempsy and Bertha Graper-Marshall.
He served in the U.S. Army, with Unit 345th Engineers, during WWII in France and Greece, from June 1944 to July 1946.
Most of his life, he farmed. He also worked for INDOT (Indiana Dept of Transportation) and various factory positions in southern Indiana. He was a hard worker and endured hardships as his generation did. He was a good provider and loved watching his children grow and go into the world and achieve.
He married on Dec. 19, 1948, Nellie Belle Norris. Children of this marriage are: George Lee, Jerry Dale, Roger Harold, Connie Sue, Richard Lee, and Anthony Darwin.
The marriage ended in August of 1969.
He remarried on June 6,1970, Theda May (Reed-Marshall). She was the widow of his two brothers - Vincent and Rodney.
He raised her children Vivian, Melvin, and Marilyn, as his own. This marriage gave him his last child, Beverly.
