Bert Neil Epps, 55, of Goochland, passed away April 18, 2006. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gale and Gertrude Epps. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Epps; his children, Jamey N. Epps (Stephanie) of Spotsylvania, Lindsey P. Waters (Joey) of Chesterfield, Sara K. Epps of Powhatan, and Samuel T. Epps of Goochland; his sisters, Shirley (Jerry) Bowden, Ellen (Bucky) Stanley, and Gay (Gary) Murrell; and one brother, Tracy Epps (Cindy) and their children; his mother and father-in-law, Thomas and Joann Bossi; his sister-in-law, Lynn (Michael) Kinsel; and brother-in-law, Joseph Bossi. Bert was a sergeant and 23 year veteran with the Virginia State Police. He served as a dispatcher at Division 1 Headquarters, was transferred to trooper in 1986 and served in Powhatan County. He was promoted to sergeant in 1996 and while sergeant served in Goochland/Louisa Counties. He was also canine coordinator in the Training Division and duty sergeant in the Criminal Justice Information Services Division. He was a member of Powhatan Masonic Lodge #295. The family will receive friends in the Reid Chapel, Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m., where funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. Interment Signal Hill Memorial Park, Hanover. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to the Samuel T. Epps Trust Fund, Wachovia Bank, P.O. Box 109, Goochland, Va. 23063.
