This is a tribute to Jimmy Don Brockway. Jimmy entered Forest in the fall of 1951 as an eighth grader, and was in the last graduating class of May 1956.
Jimmy, the youngest of nine children, was born August 8, 1937 to Virgil Franklin and Myrtle Mae (Cannon) Brockway. He spent most of his formative years living at the corner of Lagow and Haskell in South Dallas and followed his older siblings into Forest Avenue High School. At Forest, Jimmy was a two year letterman in football and baseball and was an active member of the choir.
Jimmy married a fellow Forester, Patsy Tisslier (class of 1957) June 1, 1957. He lived in Irving Texas for 50 years and worked for LTV and the Loral Corp. for over 30 years. Jimmy was a member of the Gabe P. Allen Masonic Lodge and was a 33rd Degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Dallas. He had received his 50 year Masonic pin from the Grand Lodge of Texas and had served a total of 54 years.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife Patsy. He is survived by three daughters; Vickie DeLaCruz of Chestnut Ridge Mo, Becki Mitchell and husband Billy, and Karri Hopper all of Irving, Texas; seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; one brother, a sister and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jimmy was buried March 6, 2013, with Masonic services at Restland Memorial Gardens in Dallas. He was a long time member of the Forest Ave. Alumni Association and was currently serving as Vice-President. Jimmy was a very loyal ex-Forester and was well respected in life. He will be missed by his family and his many friends.
